David McDonald of OSI Group is known for driving operational excellence that helped the food processing firm to intensify its growth efforts. The current president of the firm, which has a global presence, never stopped his journey in introducing more customized products based on the local tastes and preferences. Also, intensive expansion plans with numerous acquisitions in all the major economies, under the supervision of David McDonald, helped it to become the global leader in food and meat processing industry in the recent decades. His significant achievements include supplying over 113 tons of different food and meat products such as chicken, pork, beef, dehydrated onion, and eggs for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
McDonald was actively involved in expanding the customer network of OSI Group in China, and it got numerous global fast food networks such as Saizeriya, Starbucks, Yum, Papa John’s, Subway, and Burger King apart from McDonald’s – the long-term customer of the food processing firm. He understood very early that one-size-fits-all operation could not be executed in OSI Group when it wanted to go global. Therefore, he designed different growth strategies for different demographics. The taste buds of customers, cultural differences, government regulations, and more are playing an important role the strategy of the firm in different locales.
David McDonald was the key actor in ensuring the acquisition of Dutch-based Baho Food in 2016. Baho had operations in 18 European countries with processing plants in Netherlands and Germany. It was operating under five subsidiary companies and had service excellence of more than 60 years. The brilliant move helped OSI Group to significantly improve the presence of its network in Europe and expand its product portfolio. In the same year, McDonald went for another acquisition and bought the food processing plant of Tyson Foods. The plant located in Chicago also had a storage warehouse, and the move helped OSI Group to gain the necessary infrastructure for the company’s growth in North America.
McDonald was inducted into the North American Meat Institute and currently serving as its Chairman. He also collaborated with Marfrig Global Foods as its Independent Director since 2008. McDonald began working with OSI in the year 1987 and took various responsibilities in the growth journey of the firm, and currently, he is also holding the role of Chief Operating Officer of the company. He completed his graduation in animal science from the prestigious Iowa State University. McDonald is also the active face of the firm in its philanthropic missions.
